This year, the Public Service Development Agency of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, with the support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), implemented a “door-to-door” campaign to identify and document stateless/undocumented persons.

The campaign was carried out throughout the country in April-December and its goal was to eliminate statelessness, identify undocumented persons in different regions of Georgia and ensure their documentation.

During the campaign, the mobile teams of the Public Service Development Agency identified stateless persons in the regions and determined and documented their citizenship status. Within the campaign, the persons identified by the Agency received an identity document for free.

Implementation of the “door-to-door” campaign was a result of the pledge submitted by the Government of Georgia in 2019, at the High-Level Segment on Statelessness with the aim to identify and document stateless persons.

According to the Public Service Development Agency, the number of stateless persons in Georgia is small, however, the State takes necessary measures so that every citizen living in Georgia is registered and has an identity document, becomes a full-fledged member of society, enjoys rights granted by legislation and all state services.
